The all-new 2017 NMRA season is right around the corner, and we’re excited to share the first bit of news with you!
If you follow the NMRA racing series closely, then you’ll probably already know that the 23rd Annual Nitto Tire NMRA Spring Break Shootout out of Bradenton, Florida, is scheduled as the opening event of the 2017 NMRA season. More specifically, the weekend of March 2nd through the 5th to be exact. If you’re a Blue Oval fan like us, you’ll also probably know that this is a must-attend event as well; being one of the largest ones of the season’s event series, it’s absolutely one you don’t want to miss. If you can’t make the event don’t worry, SpeedVideo.com will be broadcasting the event right here!
If you followed last year’s NMRA World Finals coverage we posted, we hinted in a separate article dedicated to the all-new Outlaw True Street class, that the folks at the NMRA would be brining back this first-time successful event for the 2017 season. As part of this year’s season, the NMRA Outlaw True Street class will be debuting during 2017 season-opener in Bradenton, Florida, at the Spring Break Shootout.
So what can one expect from this year’s season-opener? A host of NMRA heads-up style drag racing, all-new special events, and even a celebrity-appearance from Street Outlaws’ Bobby Ducote, and his ’71 nitrous-infused Ford Maverick, for starters. Additionally, the all-new season brings-forth the same traditional classes we’ve seen in the past, as well as a few new additions. Returning will be the Terminator/GT500 Shootout, EcoBoost Battle, Tremec Stick Shift, and the Turbo Shootout; while the new classes are the the Modular Xtreme and the Cobra Jet.
“After huge success in Bowling Green last year, Outlaw True Street will make an appearance once again as ididit, Inc. pays big money to bring the fastest Ford street racers on the planet to participate in the ultimate Spring Break battle royale,” the NMRA said in its press release. Our friends at UPR Products will also be hosting a new class mentioned above, dubbed the “Modular Xtreme” event. This class is dedicated to the fastest modular-powered monsters in the U.S. and is up-for big time bragging rights.
If you’re a Spring Break Shootout fan, then you’re in for an extra special treat at this year’s event as well. How does watching Ford factory racecars compete in the “Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown” sound to you? Dubbed as one of the largest gatherings of Cobra Jets in the country, this event is known as what the NMRA calls the “snake pit.” Throughout each day, these Cobra Jets will hit the track for “the ultimate Blue Oval slugfest of power and performance. These Ford-built race cars will put on a high-speed show all weekend long in search of glory and bragging rights for winning the Cobra Jet Showdown!”
As we’re sure you’ve guessed by now, there’s a lot happening at this year’s NMRA event series; with all-new classes, events, and attractions debuting for the 2017 year.
