Less than a month ago the Ford opened the order banks for 2015 Mustang ordering. While we still have no official word from Ford on the car’s final weight or horsepower numbers, the Blue Oval decided to keep up the hype anyway, and eager fans in the USA and Europe have already ordered thousands of the first batch of Mustangs to be produced.

Last week Ford brought the 2015 Mustang Configurator web tool online. This tool allows you to easily build a new 2015 Mustang to your specs. You can see what the total price will be with your selected options, and even print what you built to take to your local Ford dealer. The Configurator will eventually be able to help you locate similarly equipped Mustangs at Ford dealers near you.

We spent some time messing with Ford’s online pony car building tool and found the cheapest GT we could build was $32,925. What we’d consider a solid performance platform GT, with the Performance Package, reverse sensing system, and cloth Recaro seats rang in at $37,015. Those same options on a premium model with leather came in at just over $41k.

If you’re thinking about ordering an EcoBoost Mustang, the price tag is significantly less for what will likely be a great bang for the buck performer. We built a base, six-speed EcoBoost for $25,995. Feel like heading to the track with that turbo four under the hood? We added the EcoBoost Performance Pack and Recaros to the car and still managed to come out under $30k, with a price tag of $29,585.

The rumors surrounding limited options for the V6 Mustangs would seem to be correct. There is no Performance Pack, and no Recaro seat option for the V6. We could find very little in the way of options of these cars, whereas in the past few years they’ve been available with many of the same options as the GTs. This seems to further cement our suspicion that Ford is aiming the V6 at the rental car market, or entry level crowd only, and that this engine’s time in a Mustang is running out.
