Fans of fast doorslammer racing likely already recognize the name Danny Lowry. Driving one of the quickest turbocharged cars on the planet really cements a name in the fans’ memories. Danny’s new Larry Jeffers-built Mustang will also stick in the fans’ memories!

Lowry, racing out of Locust Grove, Georgia, took delivery of a retina-blazing-yellow and black 1967 ‘Stang that looks like it’s hauling ass just sitting in the shop! The car will be hitting the track very soon, and should have no problem putting Lowry right back into the battle for the quickest turbocharged car on the planet, a title he held a couple of years ago with his outgoing boosted S197 Mustang.

The new 1967 Mustang, which was built and painted by Larry Jeffers of Larry Jeffers Race Cars in House Springs, Missouri, was purpose-built to run light and quick in the PDRA Pro Extreme ranks. It will be powered by a 540 cubic inch 481x-headed monster, built by Nelson Racing Engines in Chatsworth, which will be force-fed by a pair of 98mm turbochargers. While there’s certainly more to quick elapsed times than horsepower, Lowry says confidently this combo will push the Mustang into the 3.50-second zone, and perhaps beyond.

“We’re confident this car, with this combination, will run in the top half of the Pro Extreme field,” said Lowry.

A Rossler 400 transmission sends power rearward to a Mark Williams 10-inch rear end, which in turn spins custom black-powdercoated Mickey Thompson double-beadlock wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson slicks. The front end also rides on Mickey Thompson wheels and tires, and Danny was quick to praise Mickey Thompson for their support of his efforts to get the car completed. The insane screaming yellow paint on the car was applied by Jeffers himself, and is highlighted by carbon fiber weave actually laid into the racing stripes. As you can see in the photos, this thing is absolutely beautiful. However, with that potent twin turbo powerplant providing the motivation, this Mustang will likely be remembered for it’s performance and not just its good looks!
