Months ago Ford release technical data on the 2015 Mustang available through a SEMA technology program so that aftermarket suppliers could get a jump on making parts for the S550 platform pony car. We are now starting to see parts trickle out through social media showing off some of the first parts for the ’15.
As we told you last week we suspect one of the first modifications many S550 owners will perform will be to upgrade the exhaust system. Exhaust upgrades have always been popular with Mustang owners and the new platform will be no exception.
We recently came across this video from Mustang6g that shows Gibson Performance dyno testing an exhaust system developed for the 2015 Mustang. Gibson is claiming a gain of 32 hp and 34 ft-lbs with their three-inch cat-back system that includes a new X-pipe on this manual transmission Mustang. That bumps output to around 390 hp and torque just shy of 350 ft-lbs at the rear tires.
No word yet on any other modifications done to the car or whether or not it was tuned after the installation of the new parts. This does look to us like a substantial gain for this style exhaust system, especially considering the lack of using long tube headers. It could be an indication that the S550 needs to be awakened by the use of some aftermarket parts to unlock more of its potential.
An interesting note along with this, Gibson’s dyno graph shows the stock S550 making right around 360 hp with the car stock. This is right along the lines of many stock dyno pulls we’ve seen on 2011-14 Mustangs. We’re not sure if something else is eating the power up, but we’d love to know where the additional 15 hp from the factory went?
We’ll keep watching for more cool ’15 mods and bring them to you as the cars starting hitting the streets in the next few weeks.
