In the past our friends on other continents had to work pretty hard to get a Mustang. And if any of our service members wanted a Mustang, they had to take their own with them. That problem appears to be going away with the 2015 model as the 2015 Mustang goes global.

For the first time in its 50-year production run, the Mustang will be available abroad in more than 100 markets. The first shipment is heading to Asia and then European markets by mid-2015. Other Ford and Lincoln models have already enjoyed global success, but 2015 is the first year your favorite pony car will be available overseas. The Mustang joining the export line-up builds on the number of vehicles Ford Motor Company exports to foreign markets. In 2013, Ford was already the leading American automaker with over 380,000 vehicles exported.

What does that mean, though? Probably the best thing this news brings is more jobs to the US economy in the way of shipping jobs, and increased job security for those at the Flat Rock, Michigan where the Mustang is assembled. However, it also exposes the Mustang to a larger, global audience for more people to fall in love with what we already know to be a great car, and a great hobby.

For those abroad reading this, and wondering if their new Mustang will be available in right hand drive? Yes, it will be available in both left-, and right-hand-drive. Let’s just hope those right-hand-drive Mustangs make it on the ship without being wrecked by one of us Yankees not used to driving from the wrong side of the car.
