GM’s Australian branch, Holden, has been in the family since 1931 when the General bought up a carriage maker by the same name. Since then, Holden has delivered a wide array of vehicles to the Australian public. 25 years ago Holden launched Holden Special Vehicles, or HSV, a division devoted to the performance aspect of automobiles.

To help celebrate this milestone, Holden is re-launching two of its most beloved models, the Commodore Clubsport Saloon and Maloo Ute. The rest of the Holden range is also getting some much-needed makeover love, including some bumps in horsepower and new factory-fitted options.

These not-quite-top-of-the-line models from Holden offer plenty of performance goodies, though the luxury bits are a bit lacking. For example, the ClubSport and Maloo both get 425 horsepower LS3 V8 engines, as well as 20-inch wheels, a rear back-up camera, and sport bucket seats. Alas, neither model gets Holdens Enhanced Driver Interface, which is basically an on-board performance monitor.

If you up to move up to the R8 versions of the Clubsport or Maloo, however, you get more power (436 ponies), the EDI, and an optional six-piston brake package. All these models get special “25th Anniversary” badging, door sills, and even a start-up screen on the EDI. New “Vector” hood and side scoops, and black-gloss 20-inch wheels are also new options for these 25th anniversary models. It’s a good time to be a Holden fan, though these cars start at around $60,000 U.S. Ouch.

They may not be cheap, but they are worth it. Here’s to another 25 years of awesome Holden performance!
