The Outback…not the Subaru but the outback of Australia, has its most high performance car yet, the Ford Performance Vehicle’s Boss 335GT. The 355 stands for kilowatts which is 450bhp to us. This all comes from the supercharged 5.0L stuffed into the Australian rear-wheel-drive Falcon. However, this Boss isn’t subtle one bit. With a big cowl hood for days hiding a supercharged monster, this thing even sports the hockey stick Boss stripes showing it’s output. The seats are awesome for those long distances and the long gearing is higher up on the list of priorities we think.

With this thing packing some serious power, what about Aussie gas prices? The seem to be closer to Europe’s prices than the US and speed is enforced more than any other place in the world. But despite some of these obstacles, the V8 is truckin’ along the outback with a little help from the British. Tom Walkinshaw helped Holden Special Vehicles so David Richards’ Prodrive partnered with Ford Performance Vehicles and the ‘Miami’ engine in the Boss as the first engine project. Richards has ties with Aston Martin, although this engine won’t end up in any of the next Astons, don’t be surprised if Prodrive engineering helps power them.

This new Boss sedan doesn’t disappoint according to those test driving it. The acceleration is claimed at 4.9 secs 0-60 time. Of course sitting inside the GT with the pedal to the floor, the supercharger whine fills the cabin from the inside while on the outside paired with the exhaust, it’s a complete beast. This “Auss Boss” also features traction control and fast, accurate steering. This thing doesn’t meet the high standards of the European sports cars, but is miles ahead of most of the muscle cars here in the states.

To get your hands on one, the price tag comes at AUD$71, 290 or £47,500. The basic GT is less than half the price of the similarly powered Audi RS5, which costs £115,000 after importing. The Aussie dollar has a recent strength making it seem more unattainable than it really is. There are no current plans by Ford to bring this thing over here since they would need to be much cheaper for the exchange rates. According to the source, this thing is needed over here being that it is “simple, exuberant, distinctive, and fun”. What do you think?
