In the fall of 2010, the team at Evolution Performance, considered the front runner at the time for the coveted accolade of putting the first 5.0L Coyote-powered 2011 Ford Mustang in the eights, got the job done during an outing at the Atco Raceway when Nelson Whitlock, owner of Evolution Performance, drove the Mustang powered by a mildly modified production 5.0L with an F1C ProCharger to a best of 8.89 at 147 miles per hour to officially claim the title.
The Evolution Performance team, with noted tuner Jon Lund helping to make the calls, had tinkered with the use of two power adders in the past – both a ProCharger F1C and a shot of the sauce – but later made a go of it with the single power adder.
However, on Monday, during another outing at the Atco quarter-mile in New Jersey under exceptional cool, early spring conditions, Whitlock and crew pushed the record for 2011 and later Mustangs just a bit further with a new best pass of 8.78 seconds at a stellar 157 miles per hour from their Kona Blue GT…without the nitrous.
Evolution Performance had this record-setting ride for sale last summer, but it would seem it still has some back-breaking life left in it.
