Looking rather like he’s in the “Green Hell” from Germany (a.k.a. the Nürburgring Nordschleife), Bryce Richert from Newcastle, WA, took his Kona Blue, 2011 5.0-liter Mustang out for a run. The 10-turn, 2.25-mile course at Pacific Raceways 20 miles south in Kent, WA, provided a nice challenge for the newest Mustang GT – this one equipped with the optional Brembo Brake package.

Richert is an experienced high performance driver and curtailed his first lapping day after two sessions, in order to preserve the 19″ Pirelli tires. No doubt, he’ll be heading back in the future with a set of R-spec rollers and a lot more fun. While he found the suspension entirely adequate, he’d prefer to change out the brake pads for a more track-oriented set.
The Brembo Brake package includes vented 14-inch Brembo rotors and 4-piston calipers in front, with 11.8-inch vented rotors and 2-piston calipers at the stern end. The package’s 19-inch Pirelli P Zero tires ride on 19×9-inch aluminum rims and a revised program for the Mustang’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system is installed.
Coming from a supercharged BMW 3-series, this new owner is reasonably qualified to say that he… “would put it (the GT) up against a lot of cars out there, including any (BMW) M3.” That’s pretty much what other experienced, high performance drivers have said of the 2011 Mustang.
