These days, it seems as if many of us are chasing a dream of having a 1,000-plus horsepower street car. We want to have our cake and devour it too. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that. Thankfully, cars like the 2015-plus Mustang GT come with advanced factory technology that makes achieving that goal a bit easier.
In the case of Jay Payson, of HP Tuners, his 2015 Mustang features a fresh 5.0-liter Coyote V8 under its hood, ready to make more than 1,000-plus horsepower at the rear wheels on only boost, thanks to a ProCharger supercharger system, a custom tune from Peitz Performance Tunes using HP Tuners hardware and software.
The baseline pull with the ProCharger F-1A-94 installed resulted in 870.31 horsepower and 619.97 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels at Erik Radzins’ House of Boost. On the second go on the rollers, a smaller upper pulley and an updated tune yielded 962.20 horsepower and 698.75 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. With additional tuning, the team was able to achieve 1,000.68 horsepower and 762.64 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels.
As Alex Peitz of Peitz Performance Tunes pointed out, it’s important to note that all of the runs were made on E85 fuel using his calibration tuned with HP Tuners.
“This is a very honest 1,000 horsepower,” Alex said. “We love putting on ProChargers – absolutely.”
