The distributor left the Mustang in 1996, leaving performance manufactures looking for new methods to create a hotter spark. One of those companies that has stepped up to the plate to introduce a coil on plug application for every 1996+ Mustang engine made is Accel.
Eliminating a distributor not only helps eliminate engine bay clutter commonly associated with a distributor, it allows for a concentrated spark on each individual spark plug. The coil is essentially integrated into the COP design for each cylinder, instead of one for an entire engine.
Accel Super Coils feature advanced bobbin technology, highly specialized silicone magnetic steel cores, along with optimized winding, resistance and turns ratios. Accel claims these coils will deliver 10-15 percent more energy than the OEM coils. Specialized high temperature epoxy resists shock and vibration, while increasing thermal conductivity. These are direct plug replacements for OEM coils.
Installation of the coils couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is remove the factory coil cover, pig tail harness on the coil itself, and the one retaining bolt. The new coil will simply slide in place without issue, taking less than an hour in most applications.
