The JMS LaunchMax allows owners of Fords with 6R80 six-speed automatics to add transbrake capabilities to their stock transmissions.

Modern Ford automatics are pretty impressive. Gone are the days when you gave up performance by opting for self-shifting. Better yet, the current 6R80 six-speed automatic can easily be tweaked for more performance. JMS is at the forefront of these mods with its LaunchMax transbrake for 2011-up Fords with this transmission, which is now available with a plug-in harness.

Essentially, a transbrake engages First and Reverse in the transmission so you can put your foot to the floor at the starting line. When it’s time to go, you release a button and the car instantly launches in low gear. The JMS LaunchMax adds this functionality without any mechanical modifications. Moreover, it releases quickly and doesn’t increase the transmission line pressure.

Just released a new plug ’n play kit, which includes the LaunchMax and a complete plug in harness for a simple installation.

“It fits anything with a 6R80 transmission, so anything 2011-2017,” Chris Johnson of JMS said. “That includes F-150s, EcoBoost Mustangs, anything with a 6R80, which is pretty cool.”

Prior to the release of this new plug ’n play kit, it was necessary to tap into the factory transmission wiring and supply your own momentary switch to engage and release the LaunchMax. The new kit includes the button and harness, so you need only plug it in, add power and ground and mount the switch.

“Before now if you buy the kit you have to splice it in,” Chris explained. “This is the first time anybody has done plug and play and the big trick was making that connector (to plug into the transmission).”
