Pennsylvania-based Evolution Performance placed themselves squarely on the map in 2010 with their exploits of the 2011 Mustang GT. First they laid claim to the very first naturally aspirated 5.0L to run in the 10’s by cranking off a 10.97 at 124 MPH back in June, and then armed with a slightly modified engine outfitted with a ProCharger, became the first 2011 to break into the eights in October. Now the Evolution team is set to tackle a new challenge.
It was announced today that Evolution Performance will be campaigning a brand new “Race Red” 2011 Mustang GT California Special with a six-speed transmission in the popular NMRA BFGoodrich Factory Stock category for the entire 2011 series schedule. The team will begin their for a series championship at the season-opening Spring Break Shootout in Florida in March and run right through to the NMRA World Finals in October.
Factory Stock is the most restricted of the heads-up NMRA eliminators with regards to the engine and drivetrain and requires a race weight of 3,450 pounds for 5.0L “Coyote” equipped cars. When the teams’ Kona Blue GT went 10.97, it weighed in at a couple hundred pounds lighter than the Factory Stock required minimum, but Fred Cook and his guys believe with the knowledge they’ve gained over the last several months they can become competitive right off the bat. Current competitive times in the class is in the high 10-second zone, making it fairly easy to to run with the pack on a 2011 Mustang with little involved.
Evolution Performance will be releasing teaser photos and more details in the coming weeks leading up to the opener at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Until then, stay tuned to their website for additional news.
