When he’s not at the track, 2014 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton has his choice of nearly any car you could possibly conceive – from a one-of-a-kind Pagani Zonda that’s named after him to posh Mercedes SUVs. There isn’t much that’s beyond his means – unless, of course, we’re talking about the top spot on the Top Gear Power Lap leaderboards.

Nevertheless, when Hamilton decides to roll out in style with his pup Roscoe, you might expect to see him rocking a seven-figure hypercar or perhaps a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6, but recently he was seen hitting the beach in something a bit more relative to us common folk – this totally bitchin’ custom 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

Of course, customizing an original Shelby GT500 is tantamount to sacrilege in collector circles, so what you’re seeing here is a replica of a GT500 made to look like “Eleanor”, the star car from the movie Gone In 60 Seconds.

This particular example was built by Classic Recreations and is called the GT500CR. Authentic Shelby parts are used in the build of a GT500CR and the vehicles are officially registered in the Shelby database. But various pro touring modifications have been applied to both upgrade performance and make the car easier to live with.

These modifications include modern suspension components and the 5.0-liter V8 Coyote engine used in modern Mustang GTs. Hamilton’s GT500CR also sports a particularly eye-catching shade of red, though Roscoe doesn’t seem especially impressed by the Yankee hardware.
