For a long time, Mustang enthusiasts have used performance exhaust systems to give their Mustangs a unique exhaust note. Thing is, we all bought the same exhaust for the most part so we all sounded the same. That is both good and bad in terms of you know a Mustang when you hear one, but there’s also nothing like the sound of a pair of performance mufflers on a V8 Mustang.
With the latest Mustangs it seems most exhaust systems either have a deep tone, or a high-pitched, X-pipe sound. It comes down to the sound each individual Mustang owner is looking for, but one thing’s for sure; we don’t see too many Mustangs wearing the stock exhaust system. Just like in the Fox days, exhaust system upgrades are usually the first to happen.
One car’s exhaust enthusiasts may not have to modify is the upcoming Shelby GT350. With the combination of the car’s performance exhaust and the 5.2L flat-plane crankshaft design, we’re not saying no one will modify the exhaust further, but it seems this is one Mustang that sounds sweet from the factory. What’s more, this engine has a lot of rpm to it, which only adds to the intoxicating exhaust note. With a performance exhaust system, the sound of a high-rpm, naturally aspirated engine, you can’t beat it.
Mustang exhausts are usually muffled into submission, and without character, but watch and listen to the above video, and tell us this thing doesn’t sound really good, as is. The Shelby GT350 is going to be a game-changer. We’re sure the GT350 will be added to every Mustang fan’s must-have list, or Mustang bucket list. It just move to the top of the list. Must…have…one.
