Last fall we brought you the Hellion Power Systems twin turbo 2015 Mustang GT during our coverage of the 2014 SEMA show. It’s been proven countless times that the Coyote engine loves forced induction. With the bottom end beefed up for 2015, more of these cars than ever before are going to see boost.
Late Model Restoration, has been working on its 2015 triple yellow Mustang GT for several months. This car had previously featured several bolt-on modifications, but the crew at Late Model Restoration wanted to take things to the next level. That’s when they turned to Hellion for a twin turbo system.
With twin 55mm Precision turbos on board, along with a Hellion blow-off valve, dual inlet vertical flow intercooler, and Precision turbo wastegates, this system has everything needed to make some extreme levels of power. The Late Model Restoration crew also opted for a TurboSmart Eboost2 wastegate controller, JMS fuel pump voltage booster, and ID1000 injectors. They upgraded the exhaust to a better flowing 3-inch Bassani system as well.
Since they began, Hellion has always offered its turbo systems as “no cut”. What that means, is the systems are engineered to require no cutting on the car, they fit using existing openings in the chassis and body. This requires a higher level of engineering and design in order to get everything to not only fit, but to flow and make power.
Late Model Restoration’s Landan Durham says he was highly impressed with the fitment of the Hellion system, as well as the power it made. The baseline for this car was 375 hp and 358 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. On pump gas with just 10 psi of boost, the Hellion kit came close to doubling that power output. 711 hp and 626 lb-ft of torque is the end result, a gain of 336 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque.
The street friendly tune allows for the use of pump gas, reliability, and great drivability. With the fuel system components chosen, and the Eboost2 controller on board, it would be easy to have another custom tune ready, so that power could be increased for the track by adjusting the Eboost2, and swapping the tune.
Durham says that Late Model Restoration is in no way finished with this car. With this much power on tap already, we can’t wait to see what else is in store for this triple yellow GT.
