Video: American Muscle Project Fox-body Part 4, Going 11’s On Boost

Thirty-five years after it’s introduction the Fox-body Mustang continues to be a popular platform for Mustang enthusiasts. Many of you have no doubt been following American Muscle’s project Fox-body, a convertible that they rescued from the scrap yard, restored, and modified to look like a 1993 Cobra.

Good looks are one thing, but the guys at AM are also all about performance. With the old ragtop looking better than ever, they turned their focus in part 4 of their build series to laying down some healthy numbers on the dyno, and getting fast time slips at the drag strip.

The AM crew is notorious in part four of their builds for adding forced induction, and their Fox-body project was no exception. They went to Vortech and picked up a V3 SI Tuner kit, for the car. When combined with the cam, head, and intake upgrades that were previously performed the supercharged mill spun the tires to 466 hp at the rear tires and 450 ft-lbs of torque. This of course was with a fully custom tune from Bama Performance.

Of course one does not simply bolt-on a Vortech supercharger system. There are other things to take into consideration when adding forced induction to any car. That includes the fuel system, and in that department AM chose Edelbrock 60 lbs fuel injectors.

The weak stock fuel system was in no way going to handle the demand from the new Edelbrock squirters, so Aeromotive was tapped to provide a fuel system solution including some new rails for the massive injectors.

Project Fox-body also had it’s rearend upgraded with new Ford Racing 3.73 gears, new Moser Engineering 31-spline axles, and a new Ford Racing Track-lock differential. They also added a roll bar and Corbeau harnesses to keep everything legal going down the track.

Speaking of the track, the payoff for all this effort came at the drag strip. 466 hp may not sound like much when you start comparing it to today’s Coyote powered beasts. In a light-weight Fox-body with these mods however, 466 hp is good enough to net an 11.64 at 120 MPH. The car definitely has the power to go faster, and AM is planning a clutch upgrade for the spring to see how much more they can ring out of it. Stay tuned for Part 5.
