As a spiritual successor to the Ford Lightning, the Raptor pickup truck is one badass off-road machine. True, the Lightning was never meant to go off-road, but the Raptor absolutely begs to be driven hard, whereas the Lightning almost had to be babied. Of course, these trucks have practical applications too, like serving our nation’s Border Patrol (those sand dunes won’t jump themselves). A truck this tough might even find work as an armored personnel carrier.
In fact, that is exactly what Hennessey is doing, according to Inside Line. They are turning the Ford Raptor into an armored SUV.
Hennessey is a company that needs no introduction. They have been building performance cars for years, and maybe they just needed a new challenge. For whatever reason though, they are getting into the business of armored vehicles. They’ve already taken Ford’s Raptor, and strapped two turbochargers to it (hence creating the Velociprator). Now, they are extending the Velociprator into massive SUV that can withstand gunfire and explosions. Many details are naturally kept secret, but you can bet there is a wealth of technology and armor plating under that handsome face.
Who might be in the market for such a creation. Well first off, anyobody who can appreciate the Velociraptor’s 622 horsepower and 638 ft-lbs of torque. Driven in 4wd mode, that truck can reach 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. Of course, with all the extra armored plating, handling and performance will likely be affected. It will still have plenty of grunt to get you out of any sticky situation involving hand grenades though.
