It’s hard to believe that the Ford Motor Company has been around for over one hundred years. Ford has become one of the most important companies in America, and the health of the Blue Oval can often be used as a gauge for the health of the rest of the country. A company with the history and reach of Ford is naturally going to have a very detailed and in-depth historical archives, and recently Ford opened its picture vault to the public. Many of these pictures haven’t been seen in decades, if at all.
Ford is offering many of these images for sale through a third-party website, Fordimages.com, for just $25. So if you’ve ever wanted a piece of Ford history hanging from your walls, now could be the time to splurge.
For now, Ford is offering 5,000 images up for sale, which is just a drop in the bucket of millions of images Ford has hidden in its archives. Now you’d think a car like the Ford Mustang might have the most popular picture, but actually it’s the vehicle that put Ford on the map, the Model T, that is proving the most popular. The picture actually comes from The Saturday Evening Post, featuring the Model T. The photo is called Opening the Highways to All of Mankind.
It’s just one of up to 15,000 pictures that Ford eventually plans to offer to Blue Oval enthusiasts. Ford is hoping to create more “brand awareness” and that there are literally millions of pictures Ford archivists must sort through, from press releases to motorsports events and concept car unveilings. While $25 is pretty steep for a reproduced picture, Ford should have no problem selling these old photos in droves.
