JPC-Clad Mustang Tops 500 RWHP Naturally Aspirated

The list of milestones and accomplishments that Mustang enthusiasts and speed shops have yet to achieve with the new 5.0L Coyote powerplant is growing rather short these days. And while with many factory engines combinations topping 500 rear wheel horsepower naturally aspirated would be quite the feat, the Coyote has proven to be game for nearly anything.

Justin Burcham and his crew at JPC Racing have a decorated list of accomplishments in the Mustang performance arena, and it’s really no surprise that they’d play a role in the first 2011 Mustang to hit the 500 horsepower mark.

Of course, it takes a significant amount of bolt-ons to top 500 horsepower with nothing but whatever air the engine can gulp from the environment, and as such, this car features several components from JPC’s extensive product lineup under the hood, and inside and underneath the car.

Producing that power begins with JPC’s Stage 1 ported cylinder heads and their re-ground Stage 1 camshaft, along with a set of long tube headers, an offroad X-pipe, over-axle pipes, and a custom tune from our friends at DiabloSport. Other additions include an axle-back exhaust setup from Bassani, a Boss intake from Ford Racing, and a JLT cold air intake.

Other components from JPC include upper control arms, a custom driveshaft, line lock kit, an 8-point chromoly roll cage, and lightweight front and rear bumper supports. Going along with these mods are a set of Strange axles and spool with 4.88 gears, Strange struts, shocks, and brakes, Metco lower control arms, an Eibach Drag Launch kit, and Bogart racing wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires.

At just over 7,500 RPM, this naturally aspirated beast churned out an impressive 5.07 horsepower, backed with a TKO 500 transmission. Weighing in at 3,250 pounds with driver, those numbers translated to a best elapsed time of 10.78-seconds at 128.86 miles per hour: without a power adder anywhere in sight.
