Back in its day, certain versions of the Ford Mustang were racing marvels, chief among them the Boss 302. Of course, technology has come a long way in the intervening 47 years since the Ford Mustang first debuted, and it can’t even hold a candle to the 2011 Mustang V6, nevermind the GT. But with the right mixture of modern performance parts, you can turn a classic Mustang into a track beast.
If you don’t believe us, just check out this video found by Mustangs Daily. It shows what looks to be a 1965 Mustang absolutely embarrassing some modern Porsche cars. We don’t know who this guy is, but we’d like to shake his hand.
This video is nearly a year old, but there’s no description of the events contained inside, only a title. “Cayman Interseries: Fast practice at Road Atlanta.” The Cayman Interseries is a race set aside for 2009 and 2010 Porsche Cayman mid-engine sports cars. However, many racing series share the track on race day, as a way to reduce costs and get the most racing into a single day possible. So perhaps that explains why this Grabber Blue Mustang is on the track with these fast Porsches.
What it doesn’t explain is what the hell is going on under the hood of that Mustang. Granted, this was a “fast practice,” but over the course of the five-minute video the Mustang not only hangs with these Porsches, but blows them away on the straight-aways. Towards the end of the video, the Mustang’s driver takes a too-wide turn, and the red Porsche and the camera-car (also a Porsche judging from the other videos) both sneak by on the inside. But just before the video ends, you hear the mighty roar of the Mustang, and that blue streak comes on screen just as the video cuts out.
Win, Mustang.
