We’ve detailed many a contest, giveaway, and charity event where the grand prize has been a new (or classic) Ford Mustang. It would seem to us, judging by the continued popularity of the Mustang as a prize, that these contests are both successful and popular with contestants. But what happens when the winner doesn’t receive their prize?
Caller.com reports that a small town raffle in Texas has taken a sour turn, after the supposed winner of the 2012 Ford Mustang grand prize never received his car.
Details of the event are sketchy, and we have only a few lines from a local paper to go by. The raffle was held by the Benavides-based Hope and Faith Ministry, one part of their annual Stampede Bar-B-Q Cookoff at the local county fairgrounds. Tickets were sold at $20 a pop, and an estimated 800 tickets were sold. The money was set to help children with scholarships and school supplies, as well as support the Cheer Strike Cobras tumbling team. Now a little simple math tells us that that adds up to about $16,000 – only about two-thirds of the cost of a brand new base Mustang. So this raffle is looking to have been a loss to begin with.
But the ministry director says that she never received the money from the staff of the gym where the event was held. But rather than stiff the winner, the ministry director says that she is looking into taking a loan to ensure that the winner receives his prize. Now that is making right on a wrong situation, and hopefully the “lost” money resurfaces soon.
