At the beginning of this year’s racing season, Paul Brown wasn’t sure if his team would be able to secure the financial backing to race in the 2011 SCCA World Challenge GTS racing series. He eventually did, ensuring that his BOSS 302S would be able to compete with some of the world’s best racers in the highly-competitive GTS class.
Except well, it wasn’t all that competitive. Over the weekend Brown secured the SCCA World Challenge GTS class championship in his BOSS 302S Mustang with one race still left in the season. But he has had such a commanding performance all season long that there is no way anybody can surpass his lead.
The victory is Brown’s first World Challenge GTS class championship, and one that was not easy (though you wouldn’t know it by the score board.) Brown started out the race in the lead and never relinquished it as fellow competitors were forced to follow his taillights for the entire race…much like the rest of the season.
Brown has consistently finished either in first place, or at least on the podium throughout the race season. His competitors have not been as consistent, and as Brown’s lead grew, it quickly became apparent that he would be taking the championship. The BOSS 302S put its predecessor, the FR500S, down for the count, and it looks like the BOSS Mustangs are really starting to come into their own.
