The thought of an electric Mustang is about as appealing to us as the thought of Ford Probes running around with Mustang badges. Still, there are a lot of people out there that want an electric vehicle to save at the pump and to pollute the earth less. While there are big downsides to EVs, like range anxiety and charge time, never having to change oil or stop for gas is rather appealing.
If you love the S917 Mustang platform, but want nothing to do with a gasoline engine, a company called PluginMotors is making a conversion that might interest the green part of your brain. The car is based on a V6 Mustang and is called the Plug-In Panther. You can place your order for the converted vehicles right now, if you have the green, because they’re expensive. The Minimum Range Panther is good for 85 miles per charge at 55 mph and will cost you $75,900. It needs 11 hours to charge on an 110V jack or 1.1 hours on a 240V plug and has a top speed of 85 mph, or 105 mph depending on options.
The Max Range Panther will go 200 miles on a charge at 55 mph for $99,900. It has the same top speed and needs 28 hours to fully charge on a 120V outlet and 2.8 hours on a 240V outlet. The panther will do 0-60 in 5.6 to 9.5 seconds depending on the model you choose. It’s worth noting that the driving range varies greatly with climate and terrain for EVs.
