There’s a lot of discussion about income inequality and the wealthiest 1% of Americans right now. When we picture someone with a title like “Vice President of Global Marketing,” we imagine a humorless stiff in a suit and tie. But Jim Farley, Ford’s VP of Global Marketing, isn’t just any suit. He’s a full blown gearhead, and a key figure in Ford’s dramatic turnaround.
Edmunds Inside Line profiled Jim Farley, and take a tour of his extensive collection of classic cars, including an ultra-rare ‘64 Shelby Cobra CSX car. That one car alone is probably worth more than your house.
The profile talks about Farley’s life growing up, when he illegally worked in a Ford engine remanufacturing plant. Farley also talks about a summer he spent restoring an old ‘64 ½ Mustang, before driving it halfway across the country with no license or insurance. These days, Farley owns a ‘65 Shelby GT500, a ‘32 roadster, a 2012 BOSS 302 Laguna Seca, and a Kirkam Motorsports Cobra with with a Roush 511 V8 pumping out over 750 horsepower.
But the pride of his collection is a 1964 Competition Shelby Cobra, CSX2531, which was once raced by Ken Miles. Farley races it too, like any true gearhead would, which makes him even more likable. It’s a really great read, and sort of comforting to know that there are plenty of true car guys at the helm over at Ford.
Make sure you check out the whole piece, and all the pictures, over at Edmunds Inside Line. It’s a really great read, start to finish.
