There are plenty of nicknames for Florida, from “the second chance state” for its lack of extradition laws to “God’s waiting room” for the huge number of senior citizens who make the Sunshine State its home. Florida’s elderly citizenry has been the center of controversy before as the question of age and driving ability is raised again and again. But this time it’s the elderly man who is the victim of an errant car, and not the driver.
WFTV 9 reports that a 30-year old man driving a S197 model Mustang missed a turn in West Melbourne, Florida, and wound up crashing through the home of three-time war veteran Bob Johnson.
Johnson, who was home at the time, thought his house had just been hit by an earthquake. It wasn’t until a neighbor showed up and told him that a Mustang had just driven through his kitchen. The driver, Joel Rhodes, who lived two houses down from Johnson, missed a turn and crashed into Johnson’s home, causing serious damage.
This isn’t the first run-in between Rhodes and Johnson; a few years ago, Johnson missed the same turn and caused $1,200 of damage to a concrete culvert. That means there is either a problem with the road turn or with Rhodes’ driving ability. Probably both, to be honest, but at least the old man was OK.
