If you are a regular member of any of the general Mustang forums where you gather your tips and tricks and maybe add your own two cents to the general Mustang community, you may have come across a few threads regarding this stuff known as “Plasti Dip”. It’s a weather-proof spray-on rubber that is now being used for cosmetic appearances as well as it is being used for lining truck beds, and intended for other heavy duty uses.
A lot of people have fallen into the craze (myself included) and one member decided to Plasti Dip his entire 2004 Mustang convertible with about $150 dollars worth of the product. We know not everyone is going to do the whole car but some may, but for those looking to do little things here and there, check out the instructions.
You may find just what you’re looking for. Inspiration struck others on the forums of MustangEvolution as they posted their own photos of dipped wheels, custom stripes, blackout panels, and different projects they have done regarding this cheap spray rubber.
This Plasti Dip is available in different colors and gloss and can be found almost everywhere including Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes, or anywhere that may carry a wide variety of improvement products. Even Summit Racing has the product on their website. For about $6 a can, it’s pretty cheap and has a lot of enthusiasts adding their very own cosmetic touches to their ‘Stangs. People are fearlessly applying this to their paint knowing that it will peel right off if you mess up or don’t like your end result. Check out the How-To Guide here and what exactly you will need to start the process. Not that everyone wants to really do their entire car, but it has different instructions on how to do individual pieces.
What do you think of this Plasti Dip craze? Would you try it out?
