How many times have you seen a car sitting somewhere just rotting away, and you thought to yourself, “what a shame”? The next time you pass by that car, you wonder why nobody is doing anything with it, or why the owner isn’t selling it if he isn’t going to drive it or fix it.

We’ve seen that happen all too many times, and like the car itself, we sit there and do nothing. But for one lucky spotter who saw a couple of Mustangs sitting around, he decided he was going to make the effort and hopefully get the cars for himself.

Matt M. tells his story on Cars In Barns and said that he saw the Mustangs pictured: a 1965 Convertible and a 1966 Fastback. But Matt didn’t wonder and wish, like so many of us do when we see cars that are begging for attention, he took action.

He left notes on the cars for the owner, telling him he wanted to buy the cars and restore them. But he didn’t just leave a note once or twice. To say Matt was persistent is an understatement because he left notes on the cars for close to 20 years.

Over this lengthy time period, the house had burned down and the owner passed away. But Matt continued to leave notes and finally his persistence paid off when the owner’s widow contacted Matt.

The best part of the story is that Matt didn’t have to haggle with her on the price, nor did he need time to get the funds together. It was an easy sale because she asked Matt to please drag them away…for free. They may be in poor shape, but he intends to restore them. This barn find spans a couple of decades, but for Matt it was well worth the effort.
