Ahh, the Australian Ford Falcon, the performance sedan that the Blue Oval refuses to bring to America. It is truly an awesome car, sporting rear-wheel drive, turbocharged six-cylinder engines and V8 engines, and enough room to take the whole family for a comfortable, spirited ride. The Falcon is a muscle car legend in Australia, and it is has only gotten better with age.

The latest Falcon masterpiece to roll out of Ford Australia’s performance division, FPV, is the Falcon Rspec. Motor Authority reports that this concept-turned-reality has stayed close to its roots, and it makes us pine for Australian muscle all over again.

As with all of FPV’s Falcon GT models, this one has a supercharged “Boss” 5.0 churning out 450 horsepower and 420 ft-lbs of torque. Sounds down on power, but this is has actually proven to be the wheel horsepower, rather than crank horsepower on the dyno. Add to that much stricter emissions standards than we have here in America, and the power numbers start to make sense.

The engine goes unmodified, though a new launch control system is available on both automatic and manual transmission models. A stiffer suspension and wider tires help the Falcon grip the road, along with new dampers and thicker anti-roll bars. But the real kicker is the looks.

Inspired by the look of classic Mustangs, as well as the current crop of Boss 302 models, the new paint schemes come in several shades with classic Boss hockey stick striping front to back. So how much will it cost? Oh, just a shade over $81,000 U.S. dollars. Just 350 models will be made, including a Ute pickup body which sacrifices some power and suspension improvements for the extra utility.

Alas, any hope we had of getting a Falcon here in America was dashed when Ford announced it was ceasing production in Australia in 2014. Guess there is always the gray market…
