Video: Installing a Cold Air Intake from LMRS on a 96-04 GT

Cold air intakes are typically one of the first mods many Mustang owners perform. In fact they’re so common that beginning in 2010, Ford developed and installed a cold air intake system as standard equipment on Mustang GT’s.

There are however, those who aren’t fortunate enough to own a newer Mustang. Before there was the three valve, or even the Coyote, standard Mustang GT fare was the 4.6 2-valve, which served the Mustang faithful well for eight years, and is still a common engine today.

LateModelRestoration.com has recently released a video detailing how easy it is to upgrade a 96-04 GT with one of their SVE cold air intakes. This modification should give the car some horsepower, and fuel economy gains, as well as give the engine a bit of a deeper tone.

This modification can be done in less than an hour, with common hand tools. You need only an 8mm socket, a flat head screw-driver, and a ratchet to perform the install.

No Mustang GT is complete without a Cold Air intake system. This system is so easy to install it only requires a socket, ratchet and maybe a flat head screw driver. The most novice Mustang virgin can handle this mod in less than an hour.

Removing the intake is a matter of loosening the clamp at the throttle body, removing the breather hoses, disconnecting the mass air flow sensor, and intake temperature sensor, and unbolting the factor air breather box at the fender. Then the entire piece can be removed as one assembly.

Reassembly, is also easy, just transfer your sensors, and the original air box grommets, then install the new intake, and heat shield following the instructions.

The SVE intake kit is constructed from polished aluminum for years of good looks, and includes a high air flow filter. The kit also includes a heat shield to block hot, and turbulent engine compartment air from getting into the intake.

This is an easy project that even the most novice Mustang enthusiast can do in no time, and a great first bolt on for any 96-04 Mustang GT.
