The folks at AFCO Racing were in the house last weekend at the Lights Out 4 heads-up drag racing bonanza in South Georgia providing customer support and showing off their new products, and some of those customers were helping to rock the house with some impressive performances during the rain-hampered weekend of racing.

Our good buddy Jason Rueckert from VP Racing Fuels, who runs AFCO products on his wicked Oldsmobile Cutlass, rocketed to career best numbers of 4.488 to put him third on the Outlaw Drag Radial qualifying sheet, and, on one of his passes, carried an epic wheelstand nearly 330 feet down the race track, showing just how much grunt that Olds has. AFCO’s Eric Saffell believes the car easily has some .30’s in it, and with some combo changes reportedly on the horizon, the always-smiling Rueckert could be a force to reckon with on radials this year.

Another AFCO racer, North Carolina native Brad Edwards, qualified second in Radial vs. The World with his ’97 Ford Mustang with a stout 4.302. Edwards steadily worked his way through the rounds and appeared a near lock for a final round matchup following a career best 4.284 in the fourth round, but a run up against the Sunday evening curfew brought the event to a close with just three cars remaining.

Eric Kenward also made some noise with his AFCO-equipped ’91 Mustang in the Ultimate Street division, qualifying fourth with a nice 5.225 in his Vero Beach, Fla.-based mount. Kenward stepped it up in round one with a 5.19, clocked a 5.16 in round two and a 5.11 in the third round, but slowed in the semifinals and fell to eventual winner Walt Drakeford.

Despite the rains, the AFCO team kept busy entertaining customers and customers-to-be all weekend.

“We had a great event even though the rains dampened the action on the track,” said Saffell. “Our truck was busy most of the time during the down time. With a shock dyno on board and a big awning on the side, our shop had as many as eight guys surrounding the shock dyno as we repaired and revalved shocks throughout the event.”
