It might still be too cold to bring out your race car, but soon enough the Ford drag racing action will head south to kick of the season in the Sunshine State. As part of the annual NMRA Spring Break Shootout festivities, Tremec is hosting a specialty class for gear-banging racers dubbed the Stick Shift Shootout.

This class actually takes place within the burgeoning True Street class, where racers and their cars must endure a 30-mile cruise followed by three back-to-back drag classes. From those ranks, racers are awarded trophies in several e.t. categories and Tremec pulls out the four quickest stick-shift racers to race against one another for the chances to be the quickest stick-shift racer and win a new Tremec trans.

Four stick-shift True Street racers will square off to settle just how is the quickest gear-banger on the BMS property.

Here are the guidelines according to the NMRA: “The rules are simple: Street-type manual transmissions only. May include race-oriented modifications such as ‘face-plated’ or ‘pro-shifted’ gears. Must be hand-operated via a single shift handle. Transmissions with multiple levers or air/electronic/hydraulic actuation are not permitted.”

After the racing is over, Tremec will host a Racer Appreciation Party for all True Street competitors before the Aerospace Components winner’s circle awards ceremony on Saturday, March 4. The party will feature beer, pizza and soda.

Of course, the Stick Shift Shootout is but one of many specialty classes set to race at the Spring Break Shootout. Joining returning favorites, like the GT500 vs. Terminator Shootout, is the exciting new Modular Extreme class and more. The NMRA season kicks off at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida, from March 2-5, 2017 and our friends at Speed Video will be there to live-stream all the action right here.
