For the past couple of years, Ford has sold in limited numbers their 21st century take on the Boss 302 Mustang. While just about anyone who can scrounge together $40,000 can buy a road-going Boss 302 Mustang, or even the track-ready Laguna Seca edition, there is an even rarer Boss Mustang out there that just a select few have access to.
We are referring to the race-only 2013 Mustang Boss 302S, which does away with any pretense of road legality in favor of a balls-to-the-wall racing setup. Production has begun on the 2013 models, and these race-ready factory Fords should be all set by the time racing season begins.
With production limited to just 50 vehicles, only the hardest of the hardcore are ready to shell out $84,995 to get behind the wheel. But the car they receive is in many ways the ultimate road-racing muscle car. For one thing, extra cooling systems for the engine and transmission mean long races won’t wear out key components.
Then there’s the FIA-spec 6-point roll cage, a Recaro ProRacer racing seat, a quick release racing steering wheel, coil-over suspension, adjustable sway bars, and many more racing modifications. The result is a ready-to-go Mustang track car, and we can expect to see them competing in races like the World Challenge GTS and American Iron Championships come the 2013 season.
Get ready, the new Boss is back in town.
