John Hennessey is not known for messing around with economy cars. Rather, the tuning and supercar legend has taken some of the most expensive American performance cars and turned them into balls-to-the-walls vehicles with more than a thousand horsepower. Hennessey is best known for his efforts with cars like the Dodge Viper, Corvette ZR1, and Cadillac CTS-V.
But Hennessey is apparently expanding into the lower echelons of the automotive market, and his latest effort is focused on the 2013 Ford Focus ST. With a new 300 horsepower package in the works, Hennessey seems committed to bringing performance to the masses, no matter what they drive.
With 252 horsepower and 272 ft-lbs of torque, the 2013 Ford Focus ST isn’t exactly a slouch from the factory. But as John Hennessey is want to do, he has taken an already fast car and made it faster. The modifications he used to wake up the EcoBoost engine aren’t even that in-depth; a cold air intake added 13 horsepower to the front wheels, and a remapped ECO added another 27 horsepower and 40 ft-lbs of torque.
For those keeping count at home, that brings total output up to 292 horsepower and 310 ft-lbs of torque…at least! Hennessey then added a new Magnaflow exhaust system that added a few more ponies for an even 300. The kit is priced at just $995, though the exhaust system adds another $695 to the final price.
Not too shabby if we say so ourselves, though we’re wondering what it would take to see a 400, or maybe even 500 horsepower Focus ST. Can Hennessey do it…without a V8?
