Our friends over at BMR Suspension have a reputation for setting records and being the first to achieve many performance benchmarks in the Mustang market. This included many records with the S197 chassis when it was first released.
With the release of the all new 2015 Mustang and its all new S550 platform, the team at BMR once again have their work cut out for them. They’ll be developing an array of parts to improve the performance on the drag strip, as well as the handling of the all new Pony car. We expect big things from these guys, and as it turns out they’re already hard at work.
BMR recently took delivery of the first of two 2015 Mustangs that they have on order. As soon as the car arrived, the engineering team weighed it, and began examining it for areas that they will be improving.
Less than 24 hours from the time it left the Ford dealer showroom, the 2015 was at Bradenton Motorsports Park, at the mercy of BMR Mustang suspension guru Kelly Aiken. Prior to heading to the track, a pair of 18-inch drag radials were added, as well as what appear to be some Weld S-71 wheels on the front. BMR also says they removed a few pounds from the 3,704 pound, automatic equipped base GT for the sake of performance.
With Aiken in the driver seat, the BMR Deep Impact Blue Mustang is now (as far as we know) the fastest stock 2015 Mustang GT on the planet. Aiken was able to trip the 60-ft timers with a slow, 1.95 time, on his way to an ET of 12.656 at 112.38 MPH. The dismal 60-ft can easily be attributed to the factory airplane gears in the rear diff, a whopping 3.15 ratio.
Over the coming weeks and months BMR will begin to develop new parts for the S550 chassis, and use the information obtained in this baseline as a starting point. BMR is planning to add a host of bolt-ons and performance enhancements in addition to their own parts, including forced induction and a bullet-proof built Coyote engine.
