Few names conjure up images of mean muscle cars like Boss. For a limited production Mustang (built only in 1969 and 1970) the Boss Mustangs have had an indelible impact on the word car scene. Across the world people know and celebrate the Mustang, and the Boss is the warrior car of the brand. So bringing it back meant doing it right, and with the launch of the 2012 Boss 302 right around the corner Ford is ramping up the marketing machine to show this car off.
This video from Ford gives us a brief glimpse into what went into making the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang a worthy successor to the original.
A “hand picked” team of Mustang specialists were put to the task of bringing back the Boss. To be honest, before the Boss 302R was unveiled, we weren’t really thinking about a Boss comeback, so it was a great surprise to see this legendary name to return to the race track. Then Ford went ahead and made a street legal version, as well as the Laguna Seca Edition which has even more of the Boss 302R’s influence, like R-compound tires and most of the aerodynamics kit.
Another legend was brought in on the building process; Parnelli Jones, who drove the original Boss 302 Mustang to the Trans Am Championship. Jones certainly seems to approve of the car, though he does quip “I think we should have done this a long time ago.” The new Boss was bred on the race track, and we’re sure Ford will surpass its first effort in every way. There can only be one original Boss Mustang, but we can’t wait to try out its long-overdue successor.
