Ford has never sold a turbocharged performance Focus in the U.S. market, but that is all about to change with the introduction of the 2013 Focus ST. With a 252 horsepower EcoBoost four-banger and a whole host of performance suspension gadgets, the Focus ST will raise the bar for compact car performance when it finally debuts this fall.
In order to drum up excitement for the upcoming Focus ST, Ford decided to “crowdsource” a launch video with fans of the new Focus using their smartphones to capture the action of the launch party.
Indeed, the launch of the Focus ST was much different from many new product launches in that Ford decided it would be cool to race two Focus ST’s against each other through the narrow streets of Key West, Florida. On hand were many twenty-somethings holding up there camera phones, filming all of the action for sharing on the Interwebs.
Ford apparently collected much of the footage and spliced it into this 60-second TV spot showcasing the power, handling, and awesome sound of the EcoBoost-powered Focus. With 252 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs of torque, the Focus ST is the most powerful Focus to ever make it to U.S. shores. How better to launch such a car than with an impromptu street race cataloged by well-networked young people?
