
Pictures: Red Tails Edition Mustang
EAA Airventure, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin holds the world’s best annual aviation celebration and has also been the recent birthplace of aviation-themed Ford Mustangs. This “Red Tails” Mustang honors the famous Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviators in the US Army Air Corps. This one-of-a-kind Mustang will be auctioned off on July 26th for the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Young Eagle’s program.
Some of the Mustangs that Ford has donated to benefit the Young Eagle’s program include the AV8R, the AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll”, the SR-71 Mustang and the “Blue Angels” Mustang that raised a total of $1.5 million total for the program. Ford Motor Company is a huge exclusive supporter offering donations and vehicles to be raffled and auctioned off with proceeds going toward this program.
This special “Red Tails Edition” Mustang features a one-of-a-kind exterior paint job in polished aluminum/silver chrome complete with red and yellow accents. Under the hood is a Ford Racing 2.3L Whipple supercharger and Handling Pack. Stopping power is provided by GT500 Brembo brakes.
The ‘Stang also features a rear diffuser, performance quad exhaust, “non-standard” valance, grill, splitter, and rocker extensions. The wheels are 20-inch Forgiato Wheels, and inside the car features custom Recaro race seats with the “Red Tails” logo embroidered on them. The rear seat has been removed to mimic a cockpit. A cross brace has been added as well as custom IP badging, sill plates, seat belts, floor mats, and “Red Tails” projected from the puddle lamps.
