Most of us don’t aspire to own a Mustang. What we mean is that, as far as sports cars go, the Ford Mustang is powerful, affordable, and stylish…but it is also, well, common. On an average day, depending on where you live, you could see a dozen or more Mustangs just on your commute to work. But how often do you see a Lamborghini? Not very often, we reckon. But being that Lambo’s are so expensive, so people have taken to creating fake Lamborghini’s out of cars like the Pontiac Fiero. It’s cheap and fun, if often awkward-looking.
But one Lamborghini owner turned that whole idea on its head by converting his Lamborghini Gallardo to look like a 2005-2009 Ford Mustang, reports Hooniverse. It looks much better from the front than the back.
A Gallardo has a starting MSRP of $200,000 before you add a single option. Powered by a 5.2 liter V10, the Gallardo boasts 520 horsepower, and the engine alone costs about as much as an entire, brand new Ford Mustang GT. So why this Lambo owner would want to make his super-expensive sports car look like a Mustang is beyond us.
But whoever did the work didn’t do a half-bad job. What we mean is that, from the rear-wheels forward, this Lamborghini Gallardo looks a lot like a 2005-2009 Mustang. The hood, the grille, the doors, the sidescoops…it is all there. But the Mustang doesn’t have a glass hatch over a mid-mounted engine, nor a pancake butt like the Lambo. So the rear end kind of destroys some of the mystique.
Still, a mid-engine Mustang with a Lamborghini pedigree does sound tempting, no?
