In order for an engine to produce power, it needs three things; fuel, air, and spark. Most modifications to cars like the Ford Mustang focus on providing more air or fuel, which often leads to more power. But without spark, all you’ve got is a highly combustible mixture of fuel and atmosphere; it needs a little energy to produce a lot of power.

Ford has to work within certain specifications set by the government, so there is always plenty of room for improvement in just about every application. American Muscle’s test car, a 2011 Mustang GT, already has a few modifications like a Boss 302 intake, a 90 mm throttle body and a JLT Cold Air Intake. Without the Super Coils, the GT made 379 horsepower and 329 ft-lbs of torque.

Add the Super Coils to this combination, and max power increases to 384 horsepower and 339 ft-lbs of torque. Across the whole power curve, horsepower and torque is up by an average of 10 each, not bad for a 30-minute installation. Even on a completely stock car, these coils are good for about 4 horsepower and 7 ft-lbs of torque, plus a cleaner burning air/fuel mixture that may even result in a slight fuel economy improvement…depending on how heavy your foot is.
