The Ford Mustang has always been about beefy V8 engines, ever since it first debuted nearly 50 years ago. Whether it is the venerable 5.0, the legendary 428, or the more modern modular motors, the heart of the Mustang has always been its V8 power. That usually meant that the base motors, usually a six-cylinder (but sometimes even a four-banger) were rarely more than afterthought, making measly power and with almost no aftermarket support.
That has all changed though, as the new 3.7 liter V6 engine in the 2011 Mustang makes very respectable power; 305 horsepower, and 280 ft-lbs of torque. But just how fast can it go? American Muscle has been modifying a 2011 V6 Mustang for a few months now, and just this week, they finally got their V6 Mustang to break into the 11’s in the quarter mile…and here is the video proof.
Getting a V6 Mustang into the 11’s is no small feat, and the list of modifications is extensive thus far. From suspension modifications to the addition of a ProCharger, this V6 Mustang has come a long way from factory specs. The last info we had is that American Muscle’s V6 Mustang was putting 400 horsepower down at the wheels after being boosted by the supercharger.
But that in and of itself isn’t enough to hit 11’s…we’ll have to wait to find out exactly what they did to finally break into the 11-second category with this humble “secretary’s car.” The final time was a very respectable 11.90 @ 116 mph, faster than even the might Shelby GT500. Not to shabby for a V6!
