Make no mistake about it, the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is a very special car. As such, it comes with a number of special features, among them the TracKey, a 440 horsepower 5.0 liter engine, and the option for a race-ready package called the Laguna Seca Edition. One special feature that we managed to overlook was the quad-exhaust setup that features a removable restrictor plate, improving both horsepower and the sound of this beastly Boss.
While we’ve not heard this sound yet in person, Mustangs Daily came across these videos from a Laguna Seca Edition owner who was kind enough to make show the world what a difference this little restrictor plate makes when it comes to noise.
Before you get too excited, know that these videos were unfortunately done inside, meaning we lose some of the awesome sound of the Boss to echoes about the garage. The first video shows the Boss with the restrictor plate on, directing the exhaust out of the very rear of the car, like most Mustangs now do.
The second video is where things get saucy. With the restrictor plate removed, exhaust gases and that awesome engine note are directed to two stealthy secondary exhaust pipes just in front of the rear wheels. We can’t possibly do justice to the sound the comes out of the Boss sans the restrictor plate, so you’ll have to listen to both videos yourself to really appreciate the difference. Better yet, go to your next track day; we can almost guarantee you’ll see a Boss 302 out on the track, because not even these videos can show off the intensity coming from the 5.0 engine. But at least for now its something else Boss 302-related to drool over.
