Ford has promised us that they are going to expand their current crop of performance cars beyond just the Mustang and Taurus SHO. That includes the already-announced Focus ST, which should give front-wheel drivers around 250 horsepower. But what about the smaller Fiesta ST? We’ve seen more than a few spy shots of this hot two-door hatchback, but no official word from Ford.
Well, at least we’ve got a few more spy shots to go on. Autoblog came across these shots from CarPix of the Fiesta ST running around the world famous Nürburgring, no doubt for some testing and tweaking before its world debut.
Ford’s Fiesta has had a warm welcome in the compact marketplace, and has already carved a fairly impressive niche for itself. And Dillion Van Way has already proven that the 120 horsepower 1.6 liter four-banger is peppy enough to win a rally race in the snow. But for some people (like us) 120 horsepower just doesn’t cut it. We need more. A lot more. And Ford is expected to offer the 1.6 liter EcoBoost in the Fiesta, cranking up the volume to the tune of 180 horsepower. That’s more like it, though 200 would be even better.
More importantly though, Ford needs to ensure that the Fiesta ST knows how to handle in the twisties. That’s where the ‘Ring comes in, as the 13+ miles of sloping, curving track has become a proving ground of sorts for car companies the world over. Hopefully, the Fiesta ST stays in hatch/coupe form, as it looks so, so, so much better than the four-door hatchback. We’re looking forward to official word on the Fiesta ST, but for now, enjoy the photos.
