If you happen to be interested in the new 2012 Ford Cobra Jet Mustangs (and aren’t we all?) and you’re looking to acquire one once they go into production, we were recently tipped off by our good friend Rick Riccardi, Motorsports Manager at Downs Ford, that they have three cars available for those who can’t get on the direct list with FoMoco. Ford Racing unveiled the spankin’ brand new cars at the PRI show in Orlando, announcing that 50 turnkey models would be produced, followed by a run of drivetrain-less rollers. The limited production run, combined with high interest and demand from Stock and Super Stock racers will make this one akin finding a Tickle Me Elmo on Christmas.
The newest model to the Cobra Jet factory race car lineup will feature some small changes, with new color options – including Grabber Blue, Winner White, and Race Red – along with some coordinated graphics and new black anodized Weld Racing Wheels. Like the 2010 model, the new CJ will be powered by a 5.4L supercharged engine based on the 2011 SVT GT500 Mustang two supercharger options: a 2.3L TVS unit or a 4.0L Ford Racing Whipple blower.
The engine will be built within a aluminum block with a double-keyed crankshaft, and Manley H-beam connecting rods, and will also sport a standard automatic transmission, low-drag racing brakes, and optimized spring rates on the front and rear suspension. Goodyear has also supplied a new compound tire unique to the Cobra Jet. The 2012 model will again be produced at the AAI assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, with production slated to begin in the first quarter of 2011. MSRP on the M-FR500-CJ is $91,900 while a fully loaded Cobra Jet is priced at $103,980.
Downs Ford Motorsport has two Winner White and one Race Red car, all with full options, available to interested buyers. For more information on these Cobra Jet’s contact Rick Riccardi via phone at 1-732-349-2240, ext 958.
