Regular readers know that Terry “Beefcake” Reeves put the first 2018 Mustang GT into the four-digit range by adding a Vortech supercharger. Now that same supercharger system is available to everyone in the form of a tuner kit, so you need only supply the supporting hardware and calibration to fulfill its 1,000-horsepower potential.
A simple pulley change on the supercharger, plus fuel system upgrades and supporting mods should have no trouble getting you to the quadruple-digit horsepower target… — Brian Ellis, Vortech
“With the introduction of direct injection in addition to the standard port injection on the new engines, it raises the bar for potential horsepower development as well,” Brian Ellis, Sales & Marketing at Vortech Superchargers, told us. “We felt that it was a great opportunity to introduce the new V-3 JT supercharger as the standard compressor for this package as a result, being that it is a self-lubricated compressor option with great street drivability, yet it will support up to 1,000 horsepower.”
To allow for the physically larger V-3 JT-Trim blower to fit under the restyled 2018 Mustang hood, Vortech developed a new mounting bracket that tucks in the self-contained unit on the Gen 3 Coyote’s front-engine accessory drive.
“The more severe hood slope on the 2018s required a new supercharger mounting bracket assembly, as well as some redesigned discharge ducting,” Brian explained. “The setup is optimized for the 2018 for sure. We are excited about how it all turned out, and about the 2018s in general. They are great cars. Ford is really dialing it up with all of the cool options with these new models.”
The kit also includes big, mandrel-bent discharge tubing; a 98mm, blow-through mass air housing, and a huge air-to-air intercooler. The base kit mates with the factory airbox, but a high-flow, carbon fiber inlet tube is optional. And, for those concerned with styling, the blower is available in three finishes: black (PN 4FQ218-334JT; $6,267.99), polished (PN 4FQ218-338JT; $6,267.99), and satin (PN 4FQ218-330JT; $5,942.99).
“In addition to the Vortech system, a Vortech Maxflow Fuel Pump Voltage Booster, a simple pulley change on the supercharger, plus fuel system upgrades and supporting mods should have no trouble getting you to the quadruple-digit horsepower target,” Brian added. “Of course, for those that want to go even further, we have several supercharger options beyond the V-3 JT to support whatever horsepower and performance target the enthusiast may have.”
