A good suspension does wonders for a track car; horsepower helps too, but without brakes, all of that potent hardware goes to waste. That is where Carbotech Performance brakes comes in. Their line of street and track-ready brake pads help even the fastest cars hunker down to cornering speed. We touched base with Mike Puskar at the 2014 PRI show in Indianapolis to talk brake tech and see what Carbotech has been up to.
“XP 24 is our newest compound but we are always working on new things,” said Puskar
XP24 is the flagship compound of the extremely successful XP series of pads and is based on the same fundamentals that exist in all other Carbotech formulations. XP24 was designed for even more initial bite than the rest of its XP-brethren and has more overall brake torque along with the most linear torque curve Carbotech has yet to offer.
The pad is designed to tolerate extremely intense heat (400°F to 2000°F) derived from even the most rigorous of racing conditions. In addition, the coefficient of friction is one of the highest in the brake pad industry. Despite its boastful braking capacity, the pad is intended for endurance and offers an exceptionally long wear-life.
Carbotech does not not recommend the XP24 compound for street usage because of f elevated levels of dust and noise along with the necessary heat required to work properly. They do however have a substantial line of street/track pads such as the 12521 series and several examples of the XP line are tolerable enough to be driven to the track.
