PRI 2019: BMR Suspension Mustang Sway Bar, Strut, And K-Member Brace

The Ford Mustang is one of the best performance buys out there for a sports car, and the vast trim line goes from mild-to-wild. While the GT350 and GT500 offer insane levels of performance, there is no reason why tuners can’t mod an Ecoboost or GT to outrun them. Obviously, a lot goes into the Shelby development on track, but companies like BMR Suspension of Tampa, Florida, manufacture a vast array of 2015-2019 Mustang S550 parts, which we saw at the PRI Show 2019.

BMW Suspension built an S550 Mustang and literally flipped it over for the PRI Show display.

“We released a number of S550 Mustang parts recently,” says Frank Steadman, sales tech. “These suspension upgrades and chassis brace parts were installed on a Mustang and literally flipped over for our PRI Show display.”

With that, we had a tour of the parts under the flipped Mustang chassis and swung around the rear (roof) of the car where the anti-sway bars, K-member brace, and twin-tube strut-tower brace were on display.

BMR Suspension anti-sway bars, K-member brace, and twin-tube strut tower brace were on display at PRI 2019.

The imposing STB-760 front strut-tower brace to connect the front towers was finished in what BMR Suspension calls Black Hammertone. The crinkle-finish black is coating the thick gauge, twin-tube frame with beefy welds, and thick plates that bolt to both front shock mounts. The substantial tubing and triangulated design might amount to a bit more weight, but the stiffness is superior for the Mustang. To suit your needs, these braces are available in the trademark BMR Red or Black Hammertone color.

The anti-sway bar set fits all S550 Mustangs of any trim and increases stiffness by 19-to 55-percent front, and 63- to 208-percent in the rear.

The BMR Suspension front and rear anti-sway bars can be ordered individually (P/N: SB0454 and SB0455) or together as a set (P/N: SB0453) with all fasteners and urethane bushings of 88-durometer hardness. The set fits all S550 Mustangs of any trim or engine and seriously reduces body-roll with a 19- to 55-percent increase in stiffness up front, and 63- to 208-percent in the rear.

The material used is a fat 35mm heavy-wall tubing for the front and 25mm for the rear, both cold-formed to resist fatigue over time. These bars are also 3-way adjustable to fine-tune your suspension setup offering the right amount of over or understeer to balance the set-up. The BMR anti-sway bars are available in BMR Red or Black Hammertone from BMR Suspension.

More new product on display (also installed under the flipped Mustang) was the CB763 K-member brace.

Finally, another new product on display (also installed under the flipped Mustang) was the CB763 K-member brace. This is an often-overlooked upgrade after anti-sway bars and strut bars. But, this brace ties in the lower chassis to reduce torsional flex while cornering. Any flex in the frame is best addressed sooner rather than later as the handling will only be sloppier with added flex. Made from a cold-formed tube, the K-Member brace has thick end-brackets to bolt to the factory K-member and installs in minutes. The BMR Suspension K-Member brace is also available in Red or Black Hammertone.

BMR Suspension doesn’t stop there with the Mustang either, as they offer a complete host of products including bumper mounts, driveshaft loops, polyurethane bushings and motor mounts, as well as subframe and IRS braces.
