While all it takes to own an original Shelby GT350 Mustang are some very deep pockets, we think many Mustang enthusiasts would agree that owning a Shelby means having the privilege of preserving it for future generations. Of course that doesn’t mean you can’t modify it to your tastes, especially if you intend on taking your Shelby racing, just as it was intended to do.
Bangshift was tipped off to this awesome video of an original Shelby GT350 racing at the Daytona International Speedway in a sanctioned Historic Sports Car Racing Event, taking no prisoners as it passes Porsches with ease.
Though not an original Shelby GT350R, which regularly sell for over a million bucks each, this original GT350 has been specced appropriately, as well as fitted with some 21st-century safety gear. What really gets us going though is the wicked 289 V8 under the hood, which has to be redlining close to 8,000 RPM. It’s the Mustang in all its raw, racing glory, and we want it.
Events like the Historic Sports Car Racing series give owners and fans alike to see these classics doing what the designers and builders originally had in mind. In an impossible-to-ignore blue-and-orange paint scheme, this Shelby grabbed our attention from the first minute and never let it go through the twists, turns, and high banks of the Daytona speedway. Oh what we wouldn’t give for a day behind a wheel of that Shelby.
