Back in 2006, Pixar released a movie called simply Cars, which quickly went on to control the box office and the hearts of millions. It’s not often that car guys can get excited about a kids movie, but Cars was more clever than most movies, blending humorous nods to us gearheads while providing a wholesome family movie for the kids. Five years later and we’re finally getting a sequel. This time around though, there will be a lot more recognizable nameplates including Brent Mustangburger, a 1964 Mustang/announcer voiced by real-life golden voice Brent Musburger.
The plot of Cars 2 looks like a change of pace from the hometown-feel-good flick of 2006. With Tokyo and the World Grand Prix serving as a backdrop for Lightning McQueen and Mater’s spy adventure, we’re not quite sure what to expect from Cars 2, though the Grand Prix is sure to play a prominent role. That means we’ll likely see plenty of Mr. Mustangburger, who will be giving the audience a play-by-play recounting of the high-speed action.
He’ll be joined by the likes of Darrell Cartrip, a ’77 Monte Carlo based on real-life racer and announcer Darrell Waltrip. Jeff Gordon will also be making an appearance as Jeff Gorvette, a Chevy Corvette C6.R, a Dodge Challenger stars as an awesome American spy, and a pair of AMC throwbacks based on the Pacer and Grelim will serve as two of the movie’s new villains. There are sure to be plenty of other recognizable names and cars, so this is one must-see movie for every car guy or gal and their families this summer.
