Depending on your outlook of life, marriage is either a cause of celebration, or an inevitable tragedy of the heart. We try to be more on the upbeat side of things, and with the right person by your side, marriage can be a truly wonderful experience. Plus, it is also a great excuse to plan a trip-of-a-lifetime honeymoon excursion to whatever destination you have in mind for your post-nuptial celebrations.
For Australian natives Paul and Robyn Mullen, nothing but a journey down the fabled Mother Road, Route 66, would suffice as a honeymoon, reports Mustang Evolution. And to get them the 2,000+ miles from Santa Monica CA, to Chicago, Illinois, would be a supercharged 2007 Stillen Mustang. Now that is road-trippin’ in style.
Rather than follow the traditional East-to-West route, the Mullens opted to begin their journey on the Santa Monica pier, the “end” of Route 66. Setting out on June 18th, the couple drove their highly-modified Mustang (which apparently took issue with California’s smog laws) and drove it across eight states, stopping at many tourist traps along the way. You can check out tons of pictures from their blog.
They saw many famous sites, including teepee motels, the world’s largest totem pole, and the well-known “Jackrabbit House.” They even managed to eek out almost 20 mpg from the supercharged ‘stang during their highway journey, but ultimately the honeymoon had to come to an end, just before Independence Day. The Mullens made their way back to the Land Down Under and the Mustang waits in storage here, for a return trip down Route 66…the “right” way.
